LAURA LYNCH

What’s your name and where are you from?

LL: My name is Laura Lynch and I am from a small little village named Delvin in the middle of Ireland!

What neighborhood do you live in and what do you love about it?

LL:  I currently live in the East Village in Manhattan. I love the diversity and all the little nooks of my neighborhood. I find I am constantly discovering new exciting places to eat/drink/hangout and the opportunity to meet lots of interesting characters along the way.

What was your first impression of overthrow? What keeps you coming back to fight and train with us?

LL:  My first impression of Overthrow was this place is crazy! I was intrigued. A little artistic gem full of culture and empowerment hidden in the middle of Manhattan where I could take all my negative energy out. Its edgyness inspired me to be different and made me want more. I kept coming back because no matter who you were or what walk of life you came from everyone was treated with respect.

Tell us about your Welcome to New York moment.

LL:  I was immediately made feel welcome by everyone and pretty soon Overthrow became my New York sanctuary. The trainers all made an effort to get to know me and encouraged me to better myself in each class I took. They wanted to help me learn how to improve and develop my boxing, not just workout. After a short amount of time they motivated me to take the boxing skills I had learnt and step into the ring to fight my first amateur bout!

What Are You Fighting For?

LL:  Firstly, I am fighting for me. My life, my journey and the opportunity to grow and be myself without judgement. Knowing that just like in the ring, if you get knocked down, you can get back up again.

Secondly, I am fighting for my right to be an immigrant and live wherever my life should take me.
